Middle School Administrators Share Academic Progress at Board of Education Meeting

At the district’s Jan. 21 Board of Education meeting, the community was given a detailed presentation by Milton L. Olive Middle School Principal Dr. Michelle Darby and Assistant Principal Kimberly Clinton. They discussed the school’s excellent progress in academic markers such as literacy, math and science, utilizing such assessment tools as iReady; increased ENL proficiency via the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test; as well as new initiatives in these curricular areas.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” Dr. Darby said, quoting former South Africa President Nelson Mandela. “I really believe in that quote, and I believe that is what we are trying to do for our children. We also want them to know that regardless of anything that happens in the world, education is really what will get you where you need to be. Education offers you opportunities.”
