MLK Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Through the Arts

Wyandanch’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Oct. 9 with a schoolwide assembly highlighting the talents of students in grades 3-5. Through art, music, dance, poetry, history and drama, students explored and honored the cultures, traditions and contributions of Hispanic countries and communities around the world.
The celebration also gave students an opportunity to share aspects of their own heritage and cultural traditions with classmates and staff. “The overall theme of the event, ‘Unidos Somos Mas – Together, We Are More,’ really showcased why we are truly MLK Elite,” teacher Gaetano Tantillo said.
