MLO Celebrates Black and Women’s History Month With “Wearing Our Crowns” Showcase

Wyandanch’s Milton L. Olive Middle School presented its annual Black and Women’s History Month Celebration on March 27, in partnership with the MLO PTA and the SCOPE MLO Drama Club. The event was held in the school gymnasium.
This year’s theme, “Wearing Our Crowns Throughout History,” honored the strength, resilience, beauty and brilliance of Black individuals – especially Black women – who have shaped history through courage, creativity and leadership. The program highlighted how crowns symbolize not only heritage and identity, but also excellence, perseverance and pride.
Through a vibrant showcase of drama, music, dance and storytelling, students explored Black women’s history and the ongoing struggle for equality and change, tracing these themes through the evolution of music, dance and hairstyles.
Students performed a dynamic series of dances set to a wide range of music, including “Stand Up (from Harriet)” by Cynthia Erivo, “Take the ‘A’ Train” by Duke Ellington, “Dancing Machine” by The Jackson 5, “Boogie Wonderland,” “I Ain’t No Joke” by Eric B. & Rakim, “Chicken Noodle Soup” by Webstar & Young B, “Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama, “Time to Go” by Snappy Jit, “Where Have You Been” by Rihanna, “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyonce, “CHANEL” by Tyla, “TV Off ” by Kendrick Lamar, “What You Is” by YoungBoy Never Broke Again & Mellow Rackz, and “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” by McFadden & Whitehead.
