Senior Awarded Full Scholarship to St. Joseph’s University

The District is proud to announce that High School senior Emely Melgar-Martinez has been awarded the St. Joseph’s University NY Presidential Grant, a full-tuition scholarship covering four years of study at the university. This outstanding achievement was a direct result of her participation in the annual High School Student Conference at St. Joseph’s University last month.
Emely attended the event with the support of Wyandanch Memorial High School guidance counselors Mr. Dexter Ward and Ms. Melissa Velez, where she showcased her talents, shared aspirations and engaged with university faculty and staff. Emely’s strong academic record and leadership stood out, ultimately earning her the university’s top merit-based scholarship.
“This is a tremendous achievement and we are so proud of Emely,” said Dr. Peppericka Bonay-Martin, director of pupil personnel services. “Her hard work and determination have paid off and this scholarship represents a step toward her future success.”
The Presidential Grant is one of the highest honors offered by St. Joseph’s University and is awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. It is available to students who plan to enroll full-time and replaces any other previously awarded merit scholarships.
The district congratulates Emely on this wonderful accomplishment and wishes her a successful college journey.
