Wyandanch students accepted to prestigious MIT and Harvard summer programs

Wyandanch Memorial High School juniors Iyana Carpenter, Mauricsha Murray and Abigail Vigil have achieved an incredible academic opportunity with their acceptance into two of the most prestigious summer programs in the country hosted by MIT and Harvard University.
With an estimated acceptance rate of just .02% - approximately 20 out of 100,000 applicants – their selection to the programs marks an extraordinary achievement for both the students and the Wyandanch community.
Mauricsha Murray and Abigail Vigil have been accepted into the Microelectronics and Hardware Development program at the Beaver Works Summer Institute at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Iyana Carpenter has been accepted into the Harvard Undergraduate Ventures–TECH Summer Program at the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard. These opportunities place them among the top young minds in the nation and will provide them with exposure to advanced learning of technology and innovation.
“These students are shining examples of what determination, curiosity and hard work can lead to,” said Dr. Shen-Wei Wu, CTE computer technology teacher. “Programs like these can change their lives— and they’ll also be able to guide and inspire others in Wyandanch to aim just as high.”
The experience will allow the students to deepen their knowledge and further develop their passion for technology.
“This is a proud moment for Wyandanch,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurence Aronstein. “These students are proving that talent, drive and educational support can lead to some of the most elite opportunities in the country.”
The district congratulates Iyana Carpenter, Mauricsha Murray and Abigail Vigil on this incredible academic achievement.
