Dr. Erik Wright appointed superintendent of Wyandanch Union Free School District
The Wyandanch Union Free School District is pleased to announce the board of education has appointed Dr. Erik D. Wright as the new superintendent of schools at the April 22 meeting. Dr. Wright has more than 28 years in public education and brings a distinguished record of leadership, innovation and commitment to student achievement.
Dr. Wright previously served as associate superintendent of schools for Yonkers Public Schools where he was responsible for overseeing 16 principals and districtwide programs including English Language Arts, athletics, pre-kindergarten and student discipline. His leadership was instrumental in helping schools move out of state identified accountability statuses and creating curriculum aligning with New York State standards.
Prior to his tenure with Yonkers Public Schools, Dr. Wright held multiple leadership positions in the Beacon City School District, including assistant superintendent of curriculum and student support, executive director of curriculum and instruction and principal of J.V. Forrestal Elementary School.
Dr. Wright began his career in education as a teacher and has served in roles ranging from Head Start educator to founding principal of The Academy of the Arts in the Bronx, where he significantly increased student performance on state assessments.
“We are happy to welcome Dr. Wright to the Wyandanch family,” said Board of Education President James Crawford. “His experience in educational leadership and his student-centered approach makes him the ideal choice to lead our district forward.”
Dr. Wright earned his Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Russell Sage College and holds multiple certifications in school and district administration from New York State and New Jersey.
Dr. Wright will officially begin his role as superintendent of schools on June 1.
