Visiting the L.I. Explorium

The third grade English Language Learners recently visited the L.I. Explorium in Port Jefferson. The exciting field trip kicked off with free time in the explorium where they had a chance to play, create, build and grow together while exploring a variety of STEM activities including building with wheels and axles, using a pulley system, and measuring dried rice in a rowboat. Then after learning about different types of roller coasters, the students worked together to design and build their own roller coasters. They experimented with different pathways and heights to make their coasters work, learning about forces and energy along the way. The activity encouraged problem-solving and collaboration, with students sharing their design processes and reflecting on what they learned. It was a fun and engaging way to explore science and engineering concepts.
