During the district’s Board of Education meeting on May 15, Interim Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Arlise Carson and the board recognized scholars from Wyandanch Memorial High School for their recent athletic and academic achievements.
“Tonight, we celebrate not just the academic and athletic achievements of our scholars, but also the dedication and commitment they have shown in pursuing their goals,” said Mrs. Carson. “Their accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and the support of our entire school community."
Wyandanch Memorial High School Class of 2024 valedictorian Carlos Diaz Sanchez was recognized for his commitment to academic achievement and for being accepted to Harvard University, Princeton University and Yale University, all prestigious highly competitive Ivy League schools, along with California Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Carlos has chosen to attend MIT where he will major in bioengineering
Five scholars were honored for their participation in the Long Island Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics and for demonstrating exceptional talent and dedication. Congratulations to sophomore Iyana Carpenter for Performing Arts Dance Contemporary, sophomore Lorica Michel for Performing Arts Oratory in which she won a Gold Medal, senior Zakiay Nicholls for Business Entrepreneurship, sophomore Jefferson Orellana Reyes for Performing Arts Music Vocal Contemporary and sophomore Ariana Pierre for Performing Arts Musical Vocal Contemporary, winning a bronze medal.
Closing the series of recognitions was the Wyandanch Memorial High School JROTC Cadets, who placed first overall at the Commander’s Cup Fitness Competition. Congratulations to cadets Oscar Alvarez, Simone Chippy, Josue Corea, Mario Cu-Lopez, Naydelin Cu-Lopez, Amy Hernandez, Edwin Jiminez, Anthony Moore, Damian Murillo, Katia Pereira and Brondo Valle on this impressive achievement.
